This mask hails from the Kerrien tribe of Liberia, known for their deeply symbolic and spiritually charged artistry. Crafted in a palette of black and white, the piece represents the sacred balance between opposing forces—most notably, the unity and harmony within a household. In many West African traditions, the dual use of black and white signifies togetherness, mutual respect, and familial alignment. This particular mask features six rounded protrusions, traditionally referred to as “eyes,” which denote wisdom, spiritual awareness, and ancestral protection.
