Peter Traag, 'Sponge' Chair, 2004

£4,200
Description

The Sponge chair by Peter Traag reduces the lounge chair to pillowed volumes, its swollen arms and deep seat appearing vacuumed around the body. Upholstered in supple beige leather, it plays with ideas of compression and expansion. The piece has a slightly surreal quality, putting forth a distinctly Dutch levity. The chair embodies the playful material experimentation that defined much European design in the early 2000s. Peter Traag is a Dutch designer known for his sculptural furniture and experimental approach to form. His work often explores volume, tactility and materiality, lying between functional object and collectible design. The armchair is in good condition, with wear consistent with age and use.

Béton Brut

Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
