Mario Bellini Set of Three 'Gli Scacchi' Pieces, Italy, 1971

£4,300
Description

With its rhythm of cuboid forms, the Gli Chess series is a chameleonic take on modular tables and seating. The interconnectivity between the differing elements places great emphasis on the user’s own sense of composition and functional requirements. Made from a black Duraplum plastic shell, the pieces are structurally tough but slightly soft to the touch. Milanese architect Mario Bellini (b.1935) is one of our greatest living designers. His instinct for creating monumental pieces of design with distinctive architectural character has won him eight Compasso d’Oro awards and the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement by the Triennale di Milano. In good vintage condition with some surface marks and scratches.

Béton Brut

Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
